Bruichladdich
Bio
Abi Clephane found her passion for the drinks industry from a young age, starting her decades long journey in the on trade in a wide range of accounts - from techno clubs to neighbourhood pubs and hotel bars. She joined Remy Cointreau UK in London in 2015, working as UK Brand Ambassador for 8 years. She was responsible for representing the Bruichladdich Distillery Company portfolio, including
The Botanist, and Westland across the UK market.
Whilst always being passionate about spirits in
general, it was there that her passion for whisky and gin was really ignited. She has been always passionate about Scottish flavours, growing up fishing and foraging in and around the west coast of Scotland. She has translated this knowledge into incredible cocktails and pairing combinations that have entertained her guests all over the globe. She pioneered the whisky and crisp paring ritual, bringing a touch of humour to the traditional whisky tasting.
Following 8 years at RCUK, Abi joined Bruichladdich Distillery in 2022 as a Global Ambassador responsible for brand education across our markets in China, South-East Asia, Australia, and the UK. She also hosts Academy groups, VIP and Press trips on Islay, making sure that every visitor has an incredible experience of Bruichladdich Distillery. Abi now divides her time between the Glasgow office, the distillery on Islay, and our global markets.
The Brand

Bruichladdich Distillery is situated on the Rhinns of the Isle of Islay in Scotland. The distillery produces mainly single malt Scotch whisky, but has also offered artisanal gin, The Botanist. It is owned by Rémy Cointreau and is one of eight working distilleries on the island. One interpretation of the Gaelic word Bruichladdich is "stony shore bank", referring to a post-glacial raised beach, though an alternative, perhaps more pertinent translation may be "rocky lee shore". Normally pronounced brook-lad-dee, or by some Gaelic speakers as broo-ee-clah-dee (depending on accent).

Bruichladdich produces around 1.5 million litres of spirit annually. Most of it being unpeated however Port Charlotte (40ppm) and Octomore (80-258ppm) is also distilled from this progressive distillery. All the barley used is Scottish including some specialised grains such as Bere Barley, Organically grown barley and barley from Islay itself.
