One of six original company founders, Sean was named President and CEO of the corporation in July 1997, a position he has held for over 25 years. Utilizing his business and marketing background, Sean worked closely with the original product developers and other founders to successfully launch the business by defining and creating an entirely new category in active packaging called 2-way humidity control.
Along with business partner Tim Swail, he has been instrumental in building the company into the leader it is today, helping the company realize a period of compounding annual growth of more than 30% year-over-year for 18 consecutive years.
Boveda is the inventor of the world’s first two-way humidity control technology for use in packaging and containers. Founded in 1997, Boveda’s mission was to revolutionize the way moisture-sensitive products were packaged and preserved.
Outdated methods of maintaining moisture and humidity were limited and were at the mercy of the ambient temperature and relative humidity. The problem with the traditional methods is that they only work in one direction—either by giving off humidity (i.e., “humidifiers”) or absorbing excess moisture (i.e., “desiccants”). The Boveda technology was invented to change that.
Boveda’s patent-protected technology adds and removes excess humidity as needed to create equilibrium at a predetermined level of relative humidity. This is the difference between humidification and true humidity control.
